Obtain your condoms from a shop or clinic where they are stored in covered packages in a cool place out of the sun. Check the expiry date on the condom packet. Check the condom package to make sure that there are no cracks, holes or open sides. Gently push the condom inside the package to one side to allow room to tear open the package. Carefully remove the condom using the fleshy part of your fingers and not your finger nails.
Hold the thumb and index finger of one hand together, so that the gap between them becomes a ‘dummy vagina’. With the other hand, demonstrate squeezing the inner ring of the female condom and inserting it into this dummy vagina until you cannot push it in any more. To make insertion easy, the woman can crouch down, lie on her back or put one foot on a chair. The outer ring should lie flat against the opening to the vagina.
Guide the erect penis into the condom, making sure it does not enter around the side. This can be done using the penis model provided with the toolkit. The female condom is loose-fitting and will move around during sex. If you feel the outer ring being pushed in while you are having sex, stop and pull the outer ring back to its original position.
To remove the condom, twist the outer ring to keep the sperm inside then gently pull the condom out of the vagina.
Wrap it in a tissue and dispose of it appropriately by throwing it in a waste bin. Do not flush the condom down the toilet. Do not use the condom again. Always use a new condom every time you have sex.
